Going into medical school, I had previous experience working in EMS and as an ER scribe, which made me certain that emergency medicine was my future specialty. As the year progressed, I enjoyed learning about other specialties and being a part of those teams. Going to an osteopathic school, there is a heavy focus on primary care and many of my rotations were with primary care providers. I have been fortunate to rotate with many kind attendings, who taught me about their specialty and tried hard to convince me of their field as an option for my future. With audition rotations and the next round of board exams moving closer, I knew that I needed to really make a choice on what specialty I wanted to pursue. Realizing that it had been three years and one global pandemic since Wesley Albright I had worked in the emergency department, I scheduled a rotation at one of the MS-3, LECOM community hospitals here in Erie.I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to rotate at Saint Vincent Hospital as a third-year student. The small community hospital, tucked near downtown Erie, gives a glimpse into what it would be like to work in an ER as a physician. Each day, we would get paired with a different resident and different attending to see the wide array of concerns that came in the door. Between patients, I was ableto connect with the staff and rediscover my passion for emergency medicine. If someone finds out later that they love the field, they may or may not be able to get for myself. a rotation spot before trying to decide what to apply to. I am eagerly looking forward to the upcoming year, including applying to residencies and getting closer to my goal of becoming an emergency medicine physician.PACEP News | Spring 2023 17'
