respectfully urge OMB to revise the proposal to better preserve scientific independence, protect research participants, and avoid disruptions to federally funded research directly benefiting our patients and communities,” ACEP’s letter said. Another letter from ACEP and several other leading emergency medicine organizations asserts the need for a grants framework that is accountable to the public and grounded in scientific merit. Joining ACEP on the letter were the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP), the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD), the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA) and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM). If finalized as proposed, this rule would significantly affect how grants are awarded, managed, and terminated. The proposed rule has generated over 340,000 public comments since the comment period closed on July 13. OMB is targeting an effective date of October 1, 2026, for the final rule.
